Too Stressful?

So, the last two days of potty training Belen had decided to try to hold it in all day so that she wouldn't have to go use the potty...Today she became very upset anytime I tried to put her on her potty resulting in some pretty big accidents.  Also today, anytime I reminded her to let mommy know when she needed to go potty she answered with a firm, "NO!"

After some research; including the American Academy of Pediatrics who stated that when potty training, if a child begins to try to hold it in all day rather than use the potty then training has probably become too stressful for them  and it might be time to ease up a bit; we have decided to ease up a little bit. We still ask her to tell us when she needs to go potty...we will still put her on the potty when she indicates that she needs to go, but we have decided to do so using feel and learn pull-ups for now so that accidents aren't the end of the world when they do happen.  We will just slow down a bit.

Apparently Belen had wet the bed at some point in the night or early morning while sleeping..she didnt call for me at all...I felt so bad when I realized I had no idea how long she had been sleeping in a puddle of urine.

So, we will see as we let Belen take the lead for a bit. I really hope we won't have to relive the last 4 days when we go back to panties...but, for now we have a much happier little girl.

Kaylee refuses to wear panties or use the potty. She is a stubborn girl so I decided not to push it. At least you have made more progress than we have...

I enjoy your updates on potty training. We've introduced the potty to Rylee only to find out I am the one not ready. Well, maybe Rylee isn't quite ready yet either. It's a tough process. Good luck!

oh no! I always feel badly when Nix pees out of her diaper during the night! One night she was screaming and we didn't check on her and she had thrown up! YUCK! What a bad mom. You're doing well for trying to potty train because now she is more familiar with it.

I just wanted to say way to go on the potty training. I know I couldn't be that dedicated when I start, but it's probably good you're giving Belen a break. Emma shows some interest, but has yet to actually pee or poop in the toilet. She'll be 2 in April, so I'm holding off a bit until then. I love to read your posts!!

Hey Allysia!! I had no idea you guys were back at university village!! When did that happen?? We'd love to see you guys and come to Belen's party. I have to make sure it will work with Austin's schedule, but we'll plan on being there!

We haven't started potty training yet--I think it'll be awhile--but I've helped in potty training other kids, and it can be really tough. Every kid is different.
